When you are awarded child support payments in Florida you more than likely want to know how the payments can be used. As discussed previously, they can be used for just about anything you deem necessary. They aren’t usually earmarked for anything in particular, which leaves you the freedom to do with them as you please. Our child support lawyer in Fort Lauderdale would like to discuss how you can secure your child’s education using child support payments.

Pay for Child Care

If your children are still very young and you go to work five days a week you will need to find child care for your children, especially if they are not yet old enough to be in school. The child support payments you receive can be used to pay for child care so that you do not have to sacrifice time at work because you can’t afford care for your child.

Save for the Future

There’s nothing wrong with saving for the future when it comes to your child’s education. The child support payments you receive can be deposited into a savings account or a 529 account, which is an account for college tuition that is not taxed. You don’t even have to use a portion of the monthly payment if you don’t want to and instead deposit all of it in an account for your child’s future education.

Pay Tuition

Do you want your child to attend a private or Catholic school? There’s no reason you can’t use the child support payments sent to you each month for this tuition. Tuition for a private or Catholic school is expensive. It’s a different type of educational environment compared to public schools and many people choose to send their children to these schools.

If this is your desire for your children you can make it happen by using child support payments for the tuition. A private or Catholic school will also likely have a uniform policy. You can use child support to purchase the uniforms your child will be required to wear.

Pay for Tutors

Does your child need help with math, English, or science? Do they struggle to grasp some of the more difficult topics taught in school? If so, consider using the child support payments for a tutor. The tutor can be a teacher from the child’s school, an independent tutor you find yourself, someone who tutors at the local library, or just about anyone else you can think of who can help your child succeed.

Pay for Activities and Trips

Even if your child goes to public school there will still be fees you will have to pay. The most common fees are for activities, trips, and books. Use the child support payments to pay for the various fees associated with your child getting an education.
