Weapons Charges Defense Lawyer Fort Lauderdale

Florida weapons charges laws have become increasingly strict, and the potential sentences people face are longer. With consequences this serious, it is important to work with an attorney who will truly fight for you.

At The Law Office of Gustavo E. Frances, P.A., I have always been a fighter. I do whatever it takes within the bounds of the law to protect your constitutional rights. This often means taking your case all the way to trial.

I handle many different violent crimes in Florida, including weapons charges related to a felony where a firearm was allegedly used. I also represent people facing allegations of domestic violence. The most important piece of advice I can give someone facing these charges is to hire a skilled lawyer immediately. Police, detectives, and prosecutors are trying to build a case against you. Do not give them any ammunition. Call me first.

It is important to understand that anything you say to law enforcement after being arrested can become evidence that will potentially be used against you.

10-20-LIFE: Mandatory Minimum Prison Sentences In Florida

The Florida Legislature, working with the Florida Department of Corrections, has created the 10-20-LIFE law in Florida. This strict law sets mandatory minimum sentences for people convicted of violent crimes involving firearms in our state:

  • 10 years: The law mandates a 10-year sentence for certain felonies — or attempted felonies — where a person has/uses a gun.
  • 20 years: The law mandates a 20-year sentence if a person fires a gun.
  • 25 years to life: If someone is hurt or killed by that firearm, the mandatory sentence becomes 25 years to life.
