Florida teen facing felony charge after allegedly shooting friend

Any crime that involves a gun and a child is a very emotionally charged circumstance. It also can lead to biased judgments from the public. This may be the case with a recent incident here in Florida where a 14-year-old boy is currently facing a felony charge of manslaughter after he allegedly accidentally shot one of his friends of the same age.

The two teenage boys, along with the 16-year-old brother of the accused shooter, came across a gun inside the home's garage. The three teenagers began to play with the gun. At some point in time, the trigger was pulled and one of the 14-year-old teenagers was shot. When authorities arrived, the deceased boy was on the floor of the garage with the handgun close by.

The accident is currently still under investigation by authorities. As of right now, it has not yet been determined whether the boy will be charged as a juvenile or an adult. Either way, he is facing serious charges and consequences if convicted of the alleged crime that he is being accused of committing.

Mistakes are made every day here in Florida, especially by teenagers. This mistake should not have to follow the teen for the rest of his life in the form of a criminal record. In some cases, felony charges like these can be dropped if sufficient evidence is presented or possibly if a plea bargain is reached. An aggressive defense may help in fighting the charges brought against this teen in order to protect his future.
