Felony charge for woman who allegedly stole someone's identity

Identity theft has long been a problem in the United States, including in Florida. This particular criminal act is defined as the intentional act of obtaining and using another individual's personal information without his or her permission in order to obtain something of financial significance. However, simply because someone has been accused of this criminal act, it does not mean that he or she is guilty of actually committing the felony

A woman in Orlando is reportedly facing charges related to identity theft. According to police, she allegedly stole an elderly person's identity and then opened up a credit card in her name. The 37-year-old woman, who has been arrested and formally charged with identity theft, reportedly spent over $17,000 on cosmetic surgery. She reportedly underwent four separate cosmetic surgeries. Authorities say she also used the same card at a dentist's office, but it the amount spent there was not disclosed.

The woman has a 20-year-old son who says that he finds it hard to believe that his mother would do something like this. However, he did say that she appeared to be slimmer after a recent weight loss-related surgery. He does feel that, if there is proof to show that she did commit this crime, she should be punished, although he still feels as if his mother is innocent.

At this time, Florida investigators have not disclosed any information that shows, without a doubt, that the woman did indeed steal someone else's identity and use it for her own purposes. As the prosecutors are building a case against this woman, she may want to think about building her own case to prove her innocence in the hopes of avoiding jail time and lifelong consequences. A felony conviction can drastically affect both an individual's professional and personal lives.
