Florida bicyclists injured in drunk driving crash

An accident took place in Hillsborough County, Florida, on a recent Monday night that injured two people. The drunk driving crash reportedly occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. The man behind the wheel of the vehicle that is alleged to have been involved in the accident agreed to police officers' request to take a breathalyzer test and reportedly failed it.

According to reports, two bicyclists were traveling together, heading west on Rhodine Road. A 66-year-old man, who was driving a van and also heading west, allegedly struck the bicyclists, ejecting one of them from his seat. The 23-year-old suffered traumatic injuries and was flown to a Tampa hospital. It was also reported that the young man remains in the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The other bicyclist, age 20, suffered minor injuries in the accident. The van driver's breath test results registered blood alcohol contents of .127 percent and .129 percent. He was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence. It was reported that he remained in jail in lieu of a $500 bond.

Under Florida law, anyone charged in a drunk driving accident is entitled to acquire representation for his or her defense in court. Seeking legal consultation before appearing in court can prove beneficial for a defendant as a legal professional with experience in criminal law can evaluate an individual's case and offer suggestions concerning the options that individual has for a defense strategy. Common suggestions include negotiating a plea agreement or devising a strategy to use in a criminal trial.
