Florida man arrested for murder after car troubles

A 24-year-old Florida man is facing criminal charges after car troubles led to police arresting him. The man allegedly murdered another man after breaking into his apartment on Dec. 29.

Residents of the apartment complex called police after hearing gunshots. Police called to the scene found the body of a 56-year-old man with what looked like both knife and bullet wounds on his body. Police also found evidence that the defendant broke into the apartment after shattering a window in the residence.

The man reportedly left the residence and got into his vehicle, which broke down not far from the scene. An officer investigating the crime stopped the car and found the man inside. The defendant later admitted to breaking into the residence, stabbing and shooting the victim before running from the scene. At the time of the report, the man was awaiting trial in a local Florida jail and may face felony charges of murder, assault and other offenses.

With more employers now requiring that applicants go through a background check, those with one or more felonies on their records may have a hard time gaining employment. Felonies are more serious offenses than misdemeanors. For example, while trespassing may be a misdemeanor, robbing a property while trespassing is a felony.

If someone is convicted on felony charges, they may face penalties such as jail time, fines and probation. Those facing these types of charges may wish to consult a criminal defense attorney. An attorney can make attempts to lessen the severity of the charges or penalties, including providing an alibi for the crime or negotiating a plea deal. Someone facing an assault and battery charge, for example, may plead down to a lesser assault charge and do community service rather than face jail time.
