Man found in Miami -- faces murder charge

Some of the most serious crimes people can be charged with are violent crimes -- particularity murder charges. There are different categories of murder charges including manslaughter, first degree murder and second degree murder. While these charges are all felonies, the specific criminal punishments available will change depending on the exact murder charge.

In Miami, a man was recently arrested after a manhunt. Law enforcement officials from various agencies -- including the United States Marshall Service -- located the man in Miami after a shooting in Tallahassee, Florida. According to authorities, the man fled the Tallahassee area after he became suspect in a shooting case. Police claim he was involved in shooting three men, one of which died from his injuries.

The man had been charged with second degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated battery with a firearm. He is being held in Miami Dade County Jail until he is extradited back to Tallahassee to face trial.

It is important for people facing criminal charges, like the man in this case, to understand exactly what they are being charged with. All felony charges will generally result in more than one year in prison if a person is found guilty; however, individual punishments will vary greatly based on the specific charges. One charge may have a minimum sentence of two years, for example, where another charge may have a minimum sentence of 45 years.

By understanding exactly what people are charged with, people will be able to better prepare their criminal defense. Certain criminal defenses may be available in certain situations, like self-defense, that can help to reduce or eliminate the charges.
