Florida man involved in 2 accidents charged with DUI

Just like in many types of crime, there are various factors that can increase the seriousness of drunk driving charges. Things like causing damage to another person's car, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a drivers' license or causing injury to another person can all have an effect. Depending on the circumstances in each case a driver can face very different charges and very different penalties. Therefore, it is important for anyone who is arrested for DUI in Florida to understand the charges against them and why they are being charged that way.

In a recent case, a man is being charged with DUI and a variety of other criminal charges for two accidents. According to police, the man hit a telephone poll while driving. As a result, the airbags in his Toyota 4Runner went off and hit a seven-year-old girl that had been inside the car. Instead of stopping, police claim that the man drove off again before stopping to let the girl out of the car.

From there, police say that the man continued driving and tried to pass between two other cars as they drove down a street. Instead, he hit them both and fled from the scene. He was pulled over and arrested a short time later.

Following his arrest, he was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving with a suspended license, among others. Since then, he has been released on a $16,750 bond.

This man, like all those charged with DUI, will now face serious consequences. However, just like there are aggravating factors, there can also be mitigating factors that can help people reduce the charges. In any case, people should explore all their criminal defense options as soon as charges are brought.
