Fort Lauderdale man arrested for domestic violence against mother

Accusations of family violence can be damaging to every member of a family. These accusations can lead to a variety of legal and social consequences. Legally, domestic violence charges can lead to court hearings, jail or prison time and a criminal record. Furthermore, these charges can damage a person's reputation which can affect the person's ability to work, get housing or socialize.

While many Florida residents may think that domestic violence charges only arise between couples, that is not true. Other family fights can also lead to an arrest and charges. For example, in a recent case, a son is facing accusations of bodily injury against his mother.

In this case, police say that the 52-year-old man lived with his 89-year-old mother in Fort Lauderdale. According to reports, the two were arguing when the man followed the woman into her bedroom. At this point, authorities allege, the man hit his mother causing cuts on her face. The man is said to have then fled from the home.

He was arrested four days later by Fort Lauderdale police. He was taken to jail where he is currently being held. The man was charged with domestic violence, battery on a person 65 or older and battery. His bail was set at $30,000.

In this case, the man will want to prepare a criminal defense. In domestic violence cases, it is the prosecutor's burden to prove the violence actually happened. This can be difficult since these are often he said, she said cases. If people can introduce doubt about what really happened, they may be able to get charges reduced or dropped altogether.
